"Man is not intended to see through the eyes of another, hear through another’s ears nor comprehend with another’s brain. Each human creature has individual endowment, power and responsibility in the creative plan of God. Therefore depend upon your own reason and judgment and adhere to the outcome of your own investigation."
Abdu'l-Baha

Informational Gatherings

Firesides

One of the fundamental elements that lies at the core of the Baha’i Faith is the belief that each individual must independently investigate the truth for him or her self. Baha'is believe that truth exists, and that therefore humans not only have the ability to recognize it, but the obligation to seek it out for themselves rather than see it through the eyes of others.

This concept of the individual search for truth is central to the informational meeting, or "fireside". Most firesides are held in private homes, with a small number of people gathering together in a comfortable setting. Typically, a Baha'i (there is no clergy or priesthood) will give a brief introduction. Following this is a question and answer period. There is no obligation of any sort placed on the guests. Those who wish to investigate further are encouraged to read one or more of the many Baha'i publications, and to return with more questions!
